First time writers should write for maximum profitability, or at least do it in a way to enter the market with advantages. What you don’t know about writing and publishing a book will make or break your success as a self-published author. Do you know how saleable your topic is? Who to market your ideas to? Are you aware that self-published authors without a marketing strategy are subject to fail?

I didn’t know all of this starting out either so don’t feel bad. Guess what? I probably would not have listened to a coach either. Why? Because I thought writing a book was easy, just write what you’re passionate about.

Well, those are lessons learned. Some I learned well and others I’m still learning. What would I do different today than yesterday? If I had to re-write my life story over I would make it a fiction based on a true story. Additionally, I would write my career into the story line, do a Google keyword search of my topics to see what is being searched for regularly, and customize my subtitles in such a way to attract visitors when posting excerpts.

There is a lot to be said about the lessons of falling on your face, as a self-publisher. What I have discovered, you can fix your mistakes faster as a self-published author vs. traditionally published.

It’s not too late for you. As a self-publisher you never give up. It may mean a title change, or revamping the content. Yes, I started out ignorant but made my mistakes work out, and so can you.
