Don’t
Pay! Use Free Self Publishing Offers!
Blondie L. Clayton
Some people have a problem with
“free.” If it’s a
free offer, they wonder what is the catch? That hasn’t stopped a
few book
publishers from offering free self publishing. You’re probably
wanting to kick
yourself in the butt right now remembering how much you invested to get
your
first book dream idea off the shelf and into the market.
Well, it is true, a couple of brave companies
have
stepped out bold and you can submit your book to be printed. Notice the
“to be
printed” term. That means they print. You upload the completed
work and they
get ready for the market. And, yes, this is promoted as a free self
publishing
offer.
Don’t beat up on yourself if you laid out
cash
you’re still trying to recover. You didn’t know or the
offer wasn’t available
at the time. The best part about using free self publishing companies,
your
books are produced by the printer on demand; no customers, no orders.
There is
no storage space you need to house books waiting for customers to buy.
Another advantage with most of
these free
publishing services you don’t have to pay
for an ISBN (International Standard Book Number)
which is placed on
a bar code for retail purchases. You will have to purchase a proof copy
of the
book to make sure everything is okay and it is ready to be sold in the
market.
Compared to the few hundred you stand to spend,
or
have spent, with other book publishing options, the one book payment is
not
bad. The books are of top print quality, so quality has not been
compromised.
Free self publishing can be used by anyone who knows how to use a
computer. If
you are technologically challenged but you can follow instructions,
then you
too can do it.
You will find books priced reasonable enough so
that you can buy extra, mark them up and make a pretty good profit.
Let’s say
you pay $5.00 per book, add $1.50 shipping and handling, mark the book
up to
$12.95, depending upon the page count and you still come out with a
profit larger
than the average 10% on retail given by the traditional publishing
house. Is
free self publishing starting to have greater appeal?
Royalties are still paid to the self publisher
when
customers buy directly from the book publishing web site.
So it is a win, win situation. Your investment
was
the time and effort you had to put in any way to prep the book for
print, plus
the purchase of one book. The free
self
publishing offers can be worked into profit. So what it cost you, the
purchase
of a book to get into print. Get busy, buy extra books to sell to
friends and
family. Your message still needs you to spread it, to do some
promoting. Your
free self publishing opportunity has now put you in print and
positioned you to
make additional sales on the internet. If your printer has an affiliate
program, sign up and refer others to make extra money.
